What Makes Birdie, Birdie
Solving the Mystery of Birdie
When we adopted Birdie last October, we had so many questions… How old was she? Was she a Pittie? A mix? Was she older than Bluey or younger? Every little quirk, every burst of energy, every snuggle felt like discovering a piece of her history we hadn’t been part of.
And yes… we also wanted to figure out her birthday—because in our house, birthdays mean steak dinners, and we didn’t want to miss celebrating hers. 🥩
So we did what any reasonable dog parents would do: we ordered an Embark DNA + Age Test, swabbed her cheeks, and waited a few weeks, excited to learn more about the dog we’d already fallen completely in love with.
And now… the results are finally in!
🧬 Birdie is 100% American Bully.
🎂 She’s 3 years old. Embark estimates her birthday is February 23, 2023—which officially makes her Bluey’s little sister after all.
Built for Love (and Cuddles)
American Bullies were bred with one main goal in mind: to be incredible family dogs—loyal, people-loving, and built for companionship. Which honestly tracks perfectly with our Birdie. They’re the perfect mix: easygoing, happy-go-lucky, energetic, but not demanding hours of exercise like some other breeds. And that works out great for us right now, because we’re very much into lazy pups who love to snuggle. Birdie fits right in.
Her mornings start slow. She loves sleeping in. Once she’s up, she’ll zoom across the yard at full speed once or twice, then promptly collapse onto the couch like she’s just completed a marathon. “I’m done, humans. Admire my greatness.” She’ll throw her head back, demand belly rubs, and somehow make every goofy little habit feel like the most endearing thing in the world.
Every snuggle, every silly zoom, every stubborn little habit suddenly makes perfect sense.
