Out of the Blue, Came Bluey
We always said we wouldn’t get another dog after Maddie. And then, out of the blue, came Bluey.
He was found wandering in Fallbrook, California—no collar, no tag, no microchip—and brought to a shelter where time was already running out. He wasn’t neutered, and because of a severe heart condition, the shelter wasn’t sure he could safely be put under for the procedure. Because of that, he was placed on the euthanasia list. If it weren’t for Passion for Pitties and his foster, Molly, his story could have ended there.
We had actually crossed paths with Passion for Pitties a few months earlier at Liberty Station—rolling through with a wagon full of paralyzed pups (as one does). We exchanged information, stayed in touch, and later they reached out asking if we could help care for one of their foster dogs over the holidays. That foster was Bluey.
From the moment Bluey met Maddie, something clicked. They gravitated toward each other. Their bond was instant and undeniable.
Bluey spent Christmas with us, and before the tree even came down, it was obvious: he was already home. That big ol’ meatball stole our hearts—and our bed! Less than two months later, Maddie crossed the rainbow bridge.
Some souls just find each other, and some connections feel bigger than coincidence. Those weeks were hard, but Bluey was there—for her and for us. In that sense, maybe Maddie was passing the torch to him, showing him what love, safety, and family feel like before saying goodbye. Looking back now, it feels like it was always meant to happen—like we were always meant to find each other. 💙
